Hi there… just checking in since I haven’t written anything here or on Instagram in months.

My big news? I’ve been going to the gym regularly (Planet Fitness) for the first time in my (long) life.

It’s still kind of hard to get myself there, but if I put on my sweatpants (I can’t stand leggings with my ass hanging out) and top and wash my face and put on some lipstick, it’s so much easier! So, because I know that, I avoid thinking about the gym, and just focus on getting dressed! THEN all I have to do is get out the door! At the gym, I don’t demand much of myself.

I do 20 or so minutes on the treadmill, then I do about four machines. And I am training myself to LIKE being at the gym, so I tell myself that I like it so much when I’m there.

And when I’m doing my three sets of each of the four or five machines, I breathe in and out, and take my time with each movement, which calms me down. Sometimes I look around and see all the people who seem nice to me… At the end of my working out, I do some yoga stretches on a mat in the back room. Then, I do the best part: ten minutes on the hydro massage bed which, if you’ve never tried it, is a seriously good massage.

I’ve been going every other day. Planet Fitness costs $11 a month, or $26 a month for the type of membership that allows you to use the massage bed, massage chairs, tanning booths, and ever a meditation pod room, which I haven’t tried yet. The $26 membership also allows you to bring a guest everyday if you want.

On the days I’ve gone to the gym, I feel really good: it helps my head feel better and my body. I’m slowly, but really, building strength in my legs and arms. I’ve done yoga all my life, and it’s still a love of mine, but now it’s time for the gym, too.
